4 Things That DON'T Make Your Hair Grow FASTER

Busting Hair Myths

Written by: Bella Date: May 20, 2016

Dear Brownie,

Preambles…

5 tips that GROW HAIR FAST!!!!

How to GROW HAIR QUICKLY for cheap

GROW THAT HAIR ASAP with this weird combination

Iyam Tiyad! How many times have we fallen for posts with those kinds of titles, hoping that they would give you some secret potion that would help your hair magically sprout from the roots? How many of us have fallen for ‘them say, them say’ ? Well today, I’m here to debunk some of these myths with SCIENCE and common sense, lol

Here We Go!!!

1.Dirty Hair Grows Faster. Sigh, GIIIIIRL! I remember seeing this in people’s videos, reading it on blogs and thinking WYD? WYD? Dirty hair means clogged follicles. Clogged follicles means no air, no nutrients going in. No nutrients or air going in means no hair growth. So don’t join the hype of only washing your hair once in 2 months. Clean your hair so it can keep growing!

2. Oh Castor oil. Ehhhh! Nope. Yes, Castor oil is anti fungal. Yes, Castor oil is anti bacterial. It has been proven to help prevent hair loss and indeed thicken your hair BUT it does not make your hair grow faster. It’s sad but true. When you put it on your edges, it’s to fortify the new growth, not to make it pop up faster.

3.Trimming your ends. I really wished that this one worked BUT considering that your hair grows from the roots and has always grown from the roots…need I say more? The only benefit you get from trimming your broken ends is that your hair looks and feels better. No, trimming them doesn’t speed up the growth of your hair.

4.Mixing Magic Shampoos and Conditioners.  We all seem to think that there is a special concoction or combo of designer conditioners or creams that will help your hair grow overnight. If only! The truth is, most conditioners and shampoos do EXACTLY what they say hey do. Clean and moisturise. They don't speed up growth, I confirmed it from my doctor, lol. Clean hair does help your hair grow properly, either way!

Quick Question…

What the weirdest hair growth scheme you’ve heard of or tried?

I think it was called the inversion method; you were supposed to sit down and hold your head downwards. I never tried it though.

Lol, I've heard so much about the inversion method as well! Thinking of trying it out to find out if it works

The inversion does work, I tried when I was transitioning my hair. Only did it for two months (one week per month) but I did see satisfactory results.

The inversion method actually works but you'll feel it ehn, after doing it I just like sit down for 20 minutes to get my life back

Lmao! BRUH! I'm planning to try it and do a review! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the post Bella. I'm really glad you said something about castor oil. Cuz I've been using it consistently for a month and my expectation (full hairline) is way different from my reality (sparse hairline). So I'll take note to lower my expectation and still use consistently to protect. I heard people put 'canfo' in hair creams. For me that's the height.

I liked this post - short but informative :) Lool at trimming ends! That makes so much sense. & Goodness, why would anyone think that dirty hair grows faster, jesu!

So glad you made this post. Nigerians believe so much in topical things for making hair grow, when in actuality hair grows from within. It's all in what you ingest and how well you protect it from breakage and damage. XOXO

To be honest, I've not really heard any crazy hair growth schemes. The most I can say is that I really thought Jamaican Black Castor Oil was the bomb...
    • Brownie June 23, 2016
It IS the bomb, it just encourages your hair to grow, lol. Doesn't speed it up in any way. Think: training wheels, lol

It was definitely the dirty hair method. My hairstylist made me keep my hair full of dandruff for two months straight.
